Lo Spagnulo

The fortress castle called "Lo Spagnulo" lies on a large field of twisted and ancient olive trees. It used to be the living quarters of Don Saverio Lopez y Rojo, from Pamplona (Spain), who had builyt in the 1600's, and is located at a little distance from the Adriatic coast.The homonym countryside is 5.5 kms from Ostuni (Brindisi) and 3 Kms from Rosa Marina, a bathing center. It lies in a solitary area away from provincial traffic.

It is a base from which depart all visits tothe town, for one day excursions and for sojourns by the sea. It is a baroque-style construction: arches, small columns, perfectly white walls, wooden roofs and girders. The furnishings is rustic with fireplaces and stoves. The Farm has an ancient "Trappeto" and its specializations is mostly olive trees planting and zootechnics. It iis surrounded by a very large olive, orange and fruit plantations. Here one can have a peaceful stay, forgetting for a while city stress and habits.

The Kitchen
The Farm proposes ancient and traditional dishes, typical of the region. The Farm's kitchen, essentially rustic uses numerous products grown on its own ground. Besides the home made "orecchiette" and "maccaroni" with a broccoli sauce, also very good are the all vegetable soups, and first courses made with various types of fish.
The second courses are either grilled steaks, rabbit or chicken and typical bread balls. Vegetables ran or cooked are served abundantly since they are produced by the Farm, which guarantees their freshness and genuineness, since they are used depending on the season.
The Farm's cheeses can be tasted: they go from ricotta, stronger ricotta and "pecorino". The local wine is either a light red one or white. The fruit is various and abundant.

In such a nice and impressing area one could say that there is not enough free time: just the horse riding, the promenades, either on foot or on a bycicle, offers so many opportunities to get to know the countryside that it is hard to establish how much more it could be done, or be seen, and, above all, when! To pick the fruits from the bramble, the asparagus, the mushrooms, the tiny field flowers: all this can show us how generous nature can be with her lovers; it can make us forget the rapid passing of the time, and make us discover the small beauties of the earth. Anyway, there are also other ways to enjoy life here, anf for all tastes.
The local handcrafts is present here not only in the proper shops, but also in the various villages' markets that are held once a week, where the buyng of hammered iron utensils, some works in reed or straw and ceramics is a very pleasant occasion.

100 people can be given hospitality in rooms with 2,3,4, and 5 beds and all of them have their own baths. There is a telephone a large room for readers, a bar, a pizzeria, a tennis court and horse handling space. Nearby (3Kms) there are a swimming pool and dancing hall.
Prices include the use of the apartment with an equipped kitchen corner. Water, light and gas are also included. Weekly change of linen. The apartment will be cleaned before use and afterwards the personnel on the Farm will be of help. |
